The worlds strangest snake ?
Meet the Tentacled Snake (Erpeton tentaculatum) this strange snake has remained largely unknown to the general public, people who see it for the first time think its some sort of hoax or photoshoped but it is indeed very real. It comes from south east Asia and it lives in fresh water streams and lakes with lots of vegetation.
What makes this snake unique and unlike any other snake we have seen so far, its the ability to use 2 tentacles position on the top of the head to sense its prey under water. They are extremely successful ambush predators, which hide amongst the faller branches and roots while laying still mimicking a protruding “J” shaped stick. They use their camouflage to blend in the background waiting for a passing fish.Once a fish comes with in striking distance the tentacled snake uses its tentacles sensors to determined the direction of which the fish is coming and strike in for the kill.
It have been also observed that some times the tentacle snake will use it own body to force the fish towards the mouth and then strike.
Tentacle snakes also have another trick up their sleeves,Venom! They have a mild venom specifically adapted to paralyze fast moving fish so they cant escape its jaws.Their venom is not dangerous to humans but caution when handling this snakes is advised.
